Hey guys, let’s talk about something no one wants to talk about…poop. Okay okay I lie 9 to
12 adult boys love to talk about this and farts but us ladies, not really our favorite thing. So for the sake of our sanity let’s just call it gut health. Full disclosure: I am in no way claiming to be a doctor or an expert; I am just sharing things that I have read or that have worked for my and my family. A lot of people still believe in the theory of Hippocrates over 2000 years ago that “All diseases begin in the gut.” Why could this be the case? Because how we feel has a lot to do with “the different gut bacteria residing in our digestive tracts, as well as the integrity of the gut lining” says Authority Nutrition. So how can we help us help ourselves?
One easy way to do this is to add fermented foods into our diets. Some easy to find fermented foods:
- Pickled fruits and veggies
- Probiotic yogurt

One thing I have been doing for about a year is adding a Probiotic with my multi vitamin in the morning. Not only has this made a difference for me, but also my son who has needed Miralax for many years now until we added this to his diet. This is something easy anyone can do, but I wanted to see if I could make them at home, using only items that I already use in the house in order to further squeeze every penny out of that grocery list. Since I am obsessed with reading other mom blogs, I stumbled upon this post from Wellness Mama for healthy fruit snacks and the option to use Kombucha in them as a probiotic element struck my fancy! I found these gummy bear molds on Amazon.com for just $7.95 and couldn’t resist trying the recipe myself. It was so simple to do I was so excited to share it with you guys!
-1 10 ounce bottle of Kombucha (I used GT’s Kombucha Blueberry Blessing)
-1/2 cup Gelatin (I used Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin)
-2 Tbsp honey
-1/2 cup pureed frozen blueberries
Puree blueberries with a few tablespoons Kombucha. Add Kombucha, honey and blueberry puree to pot to warm through until it is simmering but not boiling. SLOWLY add the gelatin a little at a time whisking the entire time. Once incorporated, pour into molds or a glass baking sheet and refrigerate until set. If in glass container cut into smaller pieces when set.
